Write for The Indosphere

We are looking for expert voices in Indian history, religion, culture and philosophy to help us tell the story of one of the world’s greatest civilisations.

The Indosphere was built on a simple belief: that Indian civilisation — its history, its philosophical traditions, its religions, its art and its literature — deserves to be understood deeply, written about carefully, and shared widely.

We are a small, non-profit publication. We do not have the resources of a major media house. What we have instead is a serious and growing readership who come to us specifically because they want substance — not clickbait, not superficial summaries, not content written by generalists who googled for an hour. They want expertise. They want depth. They want writing that treats them as intelligent adults.

If you have specialist knowledge of Indian civilisation and you want to share it with a genuinely engaged audience, we would very much like to hear from you.

Areas of Expertise

Who We Are Looking For

🏛

Historians & Researchers

Academic historians, independent researchers, and graduate students specialising in ancient, medieval, or modern Indian history. We are especially interested in lesser-known periods, figures, and regions that rarely receive mainstream coverage.

🕉

Religious Scholars & Practitioners

Scholars of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, or Sufism — whether academic or practitioner. We welcome both scholarly analysis and practitioner perspectives, as long as both are honest and well-grounded.

📚

Philosophers & Indologists

Those with deep knowledge of Vedic thought, the Upanishads, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Advaita Vedanta, or other schools of Indian philosophy. We want writing that makes these traditions genuinely accessible without dumbing them down.

🎨

Art & Architecture Specialists

Experts in Indian temple architecture, classical sculpture, Mughal miniatures, folk traditions, or any of the many regional artistic traditions of the subcontinent. Help us see what is extraordinary about what others walk past.

🗺

Cultural Geographers & Travel Writers

Writers who can bring sacred sites, ancient cities, and living pilgrimage routes to life on the page — rooted in genuine knowledge of their historical and religious significance.

🌏

Diaspora Voices

Members of the Indian diaspora who have thought seriously about their heritage and its place in the modern world. We are interested in reflective, honest, and intellectually rigorous perspectives from across the global Indian community.

Editorial Standards

What We Are — and Are Not — Looking For

What makes a great submission

Original research or fresh perspective — not a retelling of something anyone can find on Wikipedia
Clear, readable prose that a non-specialist can follow without losing the depth
A strong sense of narrative — even analytical pieces should have a shape and a point
Engagement with primary sources or specialist scholarship
A topic that fits our focus: Indian history, religion, philosophy, or culture
Intellectual honesty — acknowledging complexity, debate, and uncertainty where it exists

What we will not publish

Politically motivated content designed to score points rather than illuminate
Content that promotes hatred of any religious, ethnic, or cultural community
Articles that plagiarise or are substantially AI-generated without clear disclosure
Listicles, SEO-bait, or content written primarily for traffic rather than readers
Pieces with no engagement with sources, scholarship, or original thought
Topics outside Indian civilisation (we have a tight editorial focus)
How It Works

The Submission Process

01

Send us a pitch

Email us a short pitch (150–300 words) outlining your proposed topic, your argument or angle, and a brief note about your background and qualifications. You do not need to send a full draft at this stage.

02

We get back to you

We aim to respond to all pitches within two weeks. If we are interested, we will let you know and may have questions or suggestions. If a piece is not right for us, we will tell you as clearly as we can why.

03

Write your article

Once your pitch is accepted, you write the full piece. Our standard length is 1,200–3,000 words, though we can accommodate longer work for the right subject. Include your sources and any images you own the rights to.

04

Editorial review

Our editors will read your piece carefully and may suggest revisions for clarity, structure, or accuracy. We work collaboratively — our goal is to make your piece the best it can be, not to rewrite it.

05

Publication

Your piece is published on The Indosphere with your full byline, bio, and any links you want to include. We will share it across our social channels and newsletter.

🙏

A Note on Compensation

We want to be upfront with you: The Indosphere is a non-profit platform run by a very small volunteer team. We do not currently have the resources to pay contributors. We hope to change this as we grow, but we will not pretend otherwise now.

What we offer instead: a committed and growing readership who take this subject seriously; an editorial process that will make your work better; full credit and a permanent byline; and the satisfaction of contributing to a project that is genuinely trying to do something meaningful for Indian civilisation.

We know this will not be right for everyone, and we completely understand. But if you are someone who wants to write about this material regardless — who writes because you love the subject and want to reach readers who share that love — then we would be honoured to work with you.
